Think about how you handled a recent obstacle or setback at work.
When a project didn't go according to plan or was off schedule, you didn't collapse in a heap (hopefully)! You didn't throw your hands up and say, "Well, I guess I’m a failure – I may as well quit."
No! You assessed the situation, looked at the facts, adjusted the plan as needed based on data.
You're successful when you can be objective and strategic. Emotions are allowed, but they can't be driving the bus.
So why is it so hard for us to apply the same calm logic to our bodies?
So many women, after stepping on the scale and seeing a number they don't like, legit lose their minds! Objectivity goes out the window and all that's left is a pile of emotions – often not-so-fun ones like disappointment, disgust, shame, sadness, anxiety, panic.
This is, to say the least, not helpful.
Here's the shift I recommend: Apply your "Success Mindset" to your health and body goals.
If you want to see the same results in your body that you see in your job or business, you need to treat your body as something you manage, not something you judge.
Successful women track the metrics that matter.
The scale is a "noisy" metric. It fluctuates with water, stress, and hormones. Sure, it's helpful in some situations, but it does not tell the whole story.
Instead, to gain insight into whether your plan is working, start tracking these "Health KPIs" once a week:
- Waist Measurement: This is your true "trading fat for muscle" metric. If your waist is shrinking, you're losing fat, no matter what the scale says.
- Energy Level (1-10): Are you crashing mid-afternoon or are you feeling pretty good all day? Steady energy all day = happy metabolism.
- Biofeedback: Sleep quality, hunger levels, and mood. These are a few leading indicators of hormone health.
- Strength: Are you lifting heavier weights or doing more reps week to week? If you're getting stronger, you're building muscle.
Focus on these. Only change course if these metrics tell you to. Stop reacting emotionally to one silly number that's unreliable as a measure of your progress.
