By far, the question I get asked the most is: “How can I stay on track while eating out?”
For so many women, going out to a restaurant feels like a test – order the “wrong” thing and youβve erased your progress for the week. Avoid it to be “good,” and youβre missing out on something you love doing.
Letβs be clear on something here: You donβt have to choose between working toward better health and enjoying your life. You can have your cake (or tacos, margarita, pizza, or pasta) – and eat it too.
Here are a couple moves you can use for your next meal out:
1. Decide before youβre hungry. Glance at the menu online before you walk in, while your brain is calm and youβre in goals mode. Walking in already knowing your order (including what appetizers/drinks/dessert you will/wonβt have) is the difference between a confident choice and a hungry, in-the-moment one.
2. Find your protein first. Before you look at anything else on the menu, decide on your 30-40g of protein β grilled chicken, steak, fish, shrimp, eggs β and build the rest around it. Protein is what protects your muscle while you lose fat, and itβs the thing restaurant meals most often skimp on. Pro tip: “Double the protein, please” will usually get you to 30+.
Those 2 things alone are usually enough to change how your next dinner out goes.
If you want the whole system β my full four-move method, exactly what Iβd order at 20+ popular spots (including fast food, quick sit-downs, and full-service favorites), a Cuisine Cheat Sheet, and my best tips about how to approach drinks and coffee β I put all of it in one place:
Your Restaurant Playbook. A quick read, solid advice that you can use at any restaurant in the world, costs less than chips & guac, and is backed by my 30-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee.
Your next dinner out can actually move you forward. Grab the playbook, run it once this week, and notice how good it feels to leave satisfied and proud instead of frustrated and regretful.
