I want to share something cool with you.
I've been getting lots of feedback from women who have read my book. There’s lots of info in there that’s new or unexpected, but what seems to surprise women the most is how powerful just moving more during the day can be for fat loss and metabolic health.
Most people think that “exercise” is the biggest driver.
That it has to include going to a gym, getting sweaty, and getting your heart rate up.
An even more damaging misconception is that if you do dedicated workouts regularly, then you’re covered – you can just chill the rest of the time because you’re getting your workouts in.
Ok listen… This is so far from the truth!
The aggregate of all the little movements you do throughout the day has a much bigger impact on your metabolism and calorie burn than a single workout ever could.
We’re talking about walking, standing more often, taking the stairs, moving around the house, going for a quick walk after meals, taking the groceries into the house with extra trips, pacing while on the phone, even fidgeting in line at the store.
This is called NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) – it includes all the calories you burn from everyday movement outside of formal workouts, and it can vary by up to 2,000 calories per day between people of the same size!
That’s why you can work out 5 days/week but still struggle with fat loss if the rest of your day is spent sitting.
Interestingly and importantly, our bodies naturally decrease NEAT when we’re in a calorie deficit too deep or for too long, which causes us to burn fewer calories each day and contributes to stalled weight loss. But we have ways to avoid this.
I teach all about this and so many more simple, practical, and effective fat loss strategies in my book, Your Metabolic Reboot. Check it out here.
