I was in San Francisco recently for a family event – and I went absolutely nuts with food. I ate like I never do at home.

Ice cream twice in one day? Sure, why not?

3 pieces of dessert at the party? Heck ya, it’s a party, isn’t it?

Pre-breakfast, breakfast, and post-breakfast snack? Yes, please.

But you know what was even better than eating like it was my last day on earth?

Not stressing out about it.

In the past, this would have had me completely freaking out. I would’ve been calculating the damage, planning my 2-hr treadmill events, or just feeling guilty the entire time. The whole trip would’ve been clouded by anxiety about what this was doing to my body.

But now – I enjoyed every bite, had an amazing time with family, and came home without a worry, ready to just hop back into my routine.

Here’s why: I know exactly how my body works. I have my system that’s so consistent the other 90% of the time that a weekend like this doesn’t matter at all. I know how to get right back to my routine without drama or deprivation.

And here’s the best part – once you have sufficient muscle, your body becomes a calorie-burning machine. Your metabolism is more efficient, your BMR is higher, and it just becomes default to remain lean… not to store more fat.

When you build muscle, it works for you 24/7, even when you’re eating ice cream in San Francisco (for the 2nd time that day).

You gotta stop thinking about muscle as a static structural component of the body, and start thinking about it as a dynamic tool that helps you lose fat and keep it off, stay active, feel energetic, lift your mood, improve your overall health, and gives you the freedom to actually live your life without food anxiety.

If you’re still in that place where a weekend like this feels like a setback, or where you can’t enjoy a party without guilt, I want you to know: it doesn’t have to be like that.

You can get to this place too.
