We just got back from a trip to the beach with the kids and I want to share something in case you’re the all-or-nothing type.
I didn’t work out once. I planned to! I definitely wanted to. I brought my gym clothes and shoes. But it just wasn't in the cards. I blame it on my FOMO – the kids are making sand castles and flying kites while I’m looking for a cable attachment in a gym? I couldn’t do it.
And the HIIT beach run just kept getting pushed off until “the timing is better…” which, yep, never happened.
So instead of giving up entirely and deciding that the whole week is shot, I committed to 15K steps every day. We walked a lot (extra points for carrying the kids when their “legs don’t work”) and made sure to walk after each meal. The kids are in bed and I only have 13K? Gotta go take a walk.
Same with food. I’m sure I didn’t hit 140g protein every day. And I’m very sure that I ate way more calories than my body needed. But I also know that I stuck to some basic guidelines (protein early in the morning, protein in every meal and snack, stop eating when I’m no longer hungry, etc). I enjoyed ice cream with the kids, ate their leftovers, and had plenty of fun indulgences.
I have no regrets. I didn't miss out and I also didn't set myself back.
This is never about being perfect – it’s about knowing what actually matters and being able to make adjustments as needed.
This is the difference between guessing (driven by feelings) and knowing (driven by data). It’s the difference between feeling out of control in your body and feeling confident in what you’re doing.
This is the opposite of restriction.
This is freedom. This is what happens when health becomes your lifestyle, your routine, your new normal.
Consistency is effortless.
You stop worrying so much about your future, your body, your health – because you know you’re on the right track.
If this sounds good to you and you want to learn how to get to this point, I lay it all out, step by step, in my book Your Metabolic Reboot. Check it out.
